CNC Machining Guidelines for S235JR

  • Scale Removal: The hard oxide scale on hot-rolled S235JR can wear out tools. We often face-mill the skin first with tough inserts before finishing.
  • Stress Relief: Large welded S235JR frames contain residual stress. We recommend Stress Relief Annealing before final machining to ensure flatness and dimensional stability.
  • Tolerances: Due to internal stresses in hot-rolled steel, holding microns is difficult. Standard machining tolerances (+/- 0.05mm) are recommended over precision grinding tolerances.
  • Korrosion: It will rust rapidly. Parts must be oiled, painted, or galvanized immediately.
