Uses: General purpose machining stock.
Temper T6 Solution heat treated & artificially aged Maximum strength for this alloy. Harder surface, better for machining fine chips.
Uses: Precision machined heat sinks, brackets.

CNC Machining Guidelines for 6063

  • Chip Control: 6063 is "gummier" (softer) than 6061. It tends to produce long, stringy chips. We use chip-breaking tool paths and high-pressure coolant to prevent bird-nesting.
  • Workholding: Being softer, it can dent easily in vise jaws. We use soft jaws or vacuum fixtures to hold parts without marring the cosmetic surface.
  • Deburring: Burrs on 6063 can be tenacious. We employ thermal deburring or meticulous manual tumbling to ensure smooth edges.
  • Coolant: Essential to prevent the material from welding to the cutter (BUE).
