Stainless Steel Sheet Metal Fabrication Material
Stainless Steel is the gold standard in sheet metal fabrication for applications demanding superior durability, hygiene, and aesthetic appeal. Unlike mild steel, it contains chromium, forming a passive layer that resists corrosion and rust without the need for plating. At JUCHENG, we process a vast tonnage of stainless steel sheets annually. From polished food-grade kitchen equipment to rugged automotive exhaust systems, our facility is equipped to handle the high strength and work-hardening characteristics of stainless steel. We combine high-power nitrogen laser cutting with precision CNC bending to deliver parts that are both structurally sound and visually flawless.
Stainless Steel Sheet Metal Fabrication
Mild Steel (Low Carbon Steel) Sheet Metal Fabrication Material
Working with stainless steel requires higher tonnage and specialized gas handling compared to aluminum. JUCHENG provides:
- Oxide-Free Laser Cutting: We use high-purity Nitrogen as an assist gas during laser cutting. This prevents the blackened oxidation edge common with oxygen cutting, ensuring a clean, silver edge that is ready for welding without grinding.
- High-Tonnage Bending: Stainless steel has high tensile strength and significant "spring-back." Our press brakes are equipped with compensation systems and hardened tooling to achieve precise angles on sheets up to 6mm thick.
- Premium Surface Finishes: We specialize in maintaining the cosmetic finish of the sheet. We offer #4 Brushed (Hairline), #8 Mirror Polished, and Bead Blasted finishes, ensuring welds are blended seamlessly.
- Expert Welding: Our certified welders excel in TIG welding stainless steel, minimizing heat distortion while creating strong, sanitary joints for food and medical use.
Advantages of Sheet Metal Stainless Steel
| Advantage | Detailed Description | Key Benefit |
| Excellent Corrosion Resistance | The chromium oxide layer self-repairs in the presence of oxygen. | Essential for wet environments, chemical processing, and outdoor power equipment. |
| Hygiene & Cleanliness | Non-porous surface that is easy to clean and sanitize. Does not support bacterial growth. | The mandatory material for kitchen equipment, food processing, and medical devices. |
| High Strength & Durability | Significantly stronger and harder than aluminum and mild steel. | Provides superior impact resistance and structural integrity for automotive and industrial parts. |
| Aesthetic Appeal | Available in attractive brushed, satin, or mirror finishes. | Ideal for visible architectural panels, elevator cladding, and consumer appliances. |
| Heat & Fire Resistance | Retains strength at high temperatures and resists scaling. | Suitable for automotive exhaust pipes, ovens, and heat exchangers. |
Technical Parameters & Material Properties
We cover the most critical austenitic and ferritic stainless steel grades:
| Grade Category | Specific Models | Characteristics | Ideal Uses |
| 300 Series (Austenitic) | SS304 / 304L | The most versatile and widely used stainless steel. Excellent corrosion resistance, formability, and weldability. Non-magnetic. | Kitchen equipment (sinks, worktables, hoods), enclosures, architectural trim. |
| 300 Series (Marine/Medical) | SS316 / 316L | Added molybdenum for superior resistance to chlorides and acids. "L" stands for Low Carbon, preventing weld decay. | Chemical tanks, marine hardware, medical devices, pharmaceutical equipment. |
| 300 Series (High Strength) | SS301 | High work-hardening rate. Offers high tensile strength and ductility. Can be spring-tempered. | Automotive parts, springs, clips, structural components requiring high wear resistance. |
| 400 Series (Ferritic) | SS430 | Magnetic stainless steel. Good corrosion resistance (lower than 304) but excellent formability and lower cost. | Automotive exhaust systems, appliance panels (fridge doors), decorative trim. |
Fabrication Guidelines for Stainless Steel
- Spring-Back Control: Stainless steel tends to spring back after bending more than mild steel. We over-bend slightly to achieve the desired final angle.
- Surface Protection: Stainless sheet is often used for its look. We process sheets with PE or PVC protective film (Laser-film) to prevent scratches during cutting and handling.
- Welding Distortion: Stainless steel has low thermal conductivity, meaning heat stays local and causes warping. We use clamping fixtures and stitch welding techniques to minimize distortion.
- Tooling: We use dedicated tools for stainless steel to prevent cross-contamination from carbon steel, which could cause rust spots ("tea staining").
Application Scenarios
- Commercial Kitchens: Exhaust hoods, sinks, countertops, heavy-duty worktables, stove backsplashes.
- Automobil: Exhaust pipes, mufflers, structural chassis parts, decorative trim.
- Power & Industrial: Outdoor electrical enclosures (NEMA rated), control cabinets, generator housings.
- Food Processing: Hoppers, tanks, conveyor chutes, mixing blades (SS304/316).
- Medical: Surgical instrument trays, sterilizer cabinets, MRI room components.
