CNC Machining Guidelines for 303

  • Work Hardening: While more machinable, 303 still work-hardens. We maintain positive tool engagement to prevent rubbing and subsequent hardening.
  • Korrosion: Do not use in marine environments or for welded assemblies, as the sulfur addition compromises corrosion resistance and weldability. For these applications, choose 316L or 304.
  • Passivation: Always recommended after machining to remove any residual machining oils and maximize the passive layer for optimal corrosion resistance.
